Mudcrabs pinch victory with stunning last-minute point

AFTER leading at every break, the Panthers were a favourite to win Saturday's A-grade match against the Mudcrabs, but Gladstone managed to turn it all around in the very last minute to win by a single point

The Panthers led 33-7 at quarter time on their home turf at Rockhampton Cricket ground, 60-22 at half-time and by five goals at three quarter time, only to stop dead in their tracks and allow the Muddies to run over the top of them in the final term.

Gladstone Mudcrabs player Dale Sparkman was the one to kick the winning goal on the final siren.

President Darryl Eilola said he knew it was going to be a close call.

"And you couldn't get any closer then that," he said.

Eilola said he was proud of the team to make such a big come back.

"It's excellent, the boys are starting to gel," he said.

Gladstone's best were Dean Fitzgerald, Zachary Jahn and Josh Brown their goal scorers were Jahn and Reece Sadlier with four goals and Dale Sparkman with three.

The win marked the Muddies second win for the season after defeating Brothers last week.

SCORE: The quarter by quarter scores Gladstone 1.1, 3.4, 6.6, 11.8 (74) to Panthers 5.3, 9.4, 11.5, 11.7 (73).
