Mt Larcom's dedication to late Dudge Barram

KNOWN for his willingness to lend a helping hand, Dudge Barram will be remembered for his work across the region.

The new fire station at Mount Larcom will be dedicated to Dudge, who was a life time member of the Mt Larcom fire brigade.

Mt Larcom Rural Fire Brigade first officer Trevor Rowe said Dudge dedicated a lot of his time to the brigade.

"He would have been one of the first members of the Mt Larcom brigade," Mr Rowe said.

"He dedicated a lot, did a lot of repairs and spent a lot of money he never got back."

Having known Dudge since he was a young boy, Mr Rowe said Dudge used to tell them lots of stories from carting cream around the region to mending people's luxury cars.

"I have heard of him having to make a piston for a Jaguar which broke down in town," Mr Rowe said.

"Dudge made a piston to fit the Jaguar and the bloke called back on his way through to tell Dudge his Jaguar was running better than when he bought it.

"Apparently when he took it to the Jaguar dealer, they couldn't believe he could make a piston to fit it."

Mr Rowe said they had missed Dudge's stories since he died in December 2015.

"He was a very good bloke," he said. "I always found him to be genuine."

Originally wanting to name the new fire station after Dudge, Mr Rowe said the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service wouldn't allow them to name the building after Dudge, however they were allowed to dedicate it to him.

About 50 people are expected at tomorrow's dedication ceremony at 5.30pm, including Dudge's family.

The fire station was built last year on Popenia Rd, Mt Larcom.
