Moura pool work to begin

WORK is to begin to fix the controversial Moura Swimming Pool.

Moura residents have been without the facility for 12 months after a leak was detected in the 50-metre pool and the pump broke down last season.

Commercial Services director Andrew Reid said tilers would begin work to retile the 50m pool, and this would take four to five weeks.

“The wading pool, in that time, will be resurfaced,” he said.

“The recommissioning of the 50m pool looked to be around the end of November.”

Mr Reid said the tenders for the plant room would be going out soon and the whole pool complex works should be completed by February or March.

“The only thing that adds any delay to that is rain,” he said. “You can't tile in the rain.”

He said all relevant material was on hand with a couple of local businesses helping and the people who will run the pool and conduct swimming lessons were to be inducted yesterday.

The State Government allocated $1 million in January last year to upgrade the Moura Aquatic Centre to include heating.
