Motorcross rider hurts spine in mistimed jump

A TOOWOOMBA man is the fourth patient to be airlifted from the scene of a motocross accident in the past two days, following a serious high speed crash at a Southern Downs bike track.

The 31-year-old man was airlifted from Hayworth Park Motocross Track, south west of Toowoomba, yesterday afternoon after suffering suspected spinal injuries as a result of the accident.

It is believed he was travelling around the track at speed, when he mistimed a jump and landed awkwardly.

The Toowoomba RACQ CareFlight Rescue was tasked to the scene at 2.30pm.

CareFlight's medical crew worked with Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics to treat the patient at the scene, before transporting him to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

On Sunday, the Toowoomba rescue helicopter travelled to Gap Creek motocross park to retrieve a man in his mid-50s after he suffered a lower leg injury as a result of a crash. He was airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

The same crew also flew to Manar Park, near Boondooma, where they airlifted a 31-year-old male from Hervey Bay who had suffered chest injuries after hitting a tree at speed.

He was treated by QAS and the rescue helicopters medical team, and was airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

And a 37-year-old Sunshine Coast man suffered head and arm injuries as a result of a collision between two bikes in a state forest near Coochin Creek. He was airlifted to Nambour Hospital in a stable condition.
