73-year-old charged as more than 400 cannabis plants found

A 73-year-old man will appear in Murwillumbah Local Court later this month, after police found an extensive hydroponic cannabis setup in Stokers Siding.

Police from the Tweed/Byron LAC were acting on a tip-off when they discovered more than 400 cannabis plants between 5cm and 2 metres in height growing in a brick shed on Wednesday morning.

Police later discovered more than 50 mature plants growing under shade cloth.

Bags of cannabis leaf and equipment used to package and distribute the drug were found inside the premises.

The man was granted bail.
