Morbidly obese toddler taken from her family

A TODDLER who weighs double the average for her age has been taken into care by the Western Australian Government.

The three year old weighs at least 30kg which makes her morbidly obese and doctors say her life is at risk, the ABC has reported.

The toddler comes from an Aboriginal community in the East Kimberley and has been hospitalised several times over the  past year.

Doctors have advised that the child is at "significant risk of death" and needs to be close to a hospital with breathing equipment.

Her family who live on a remote community have refused to relocated to Broome or Perth so the child can receive medical treatment.

The Department for Child Protection and Family Support has secured a court order to have her put in the care of a foster family, a move fought by the family.
