Moranbah mum who sold 'cocktail of drugs' avoids jail

A MORANBAH mother of three suffering from schizophrenia stopped taking her medication while selling about a kilogram of the drug ice for $100,000 over two years.

Tammy Renee Wimbus, 40, was also trafficking amphetamines and cannabis, the Supreme Court in Mackay was told.

She appeared before Justice David North in the court yesterday, and pleaded guilty to trafficking drugs in Moranbah between April 30, 2014 and May 18, 2016.

Wimbus also pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and possessing a mobile phone used in the commission of crime on May 17, 2016; and to charges relating to possession of a water pipe and glass pipe and clip-seal bags and scales on the same day.

Wimbus, who has spent 290 days in custody, addressed the court from the dock.

Crown prosecutor Jacob Robson argued that two years was a lengthy period to be dealing a "cocktail of drugs", and that Wimbus was "very busy" during that time.

He also asked for the court to be closed briefly, which Justice North allowed.

Defence barrister Bronwyn Hartigan said Wimbus had lived a normal life, properly managing diagnosed schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression, before she began heavily using drugs and fell into drug dealing.

Ms Hartigan tendered a letter from Wimbus, who she described as a "model prisoner", who had taken on a job while in jail and had rehabilitated.

"Since being in jail I have dealt with a lot of my demons and faced my problems head-on. Drugs have ruined my life," Wimbus wrote in the letter, which was read out in the court.

Wimbus, was sentenced to a four-year jail term, suspended immediately. Convictions were recorded.
