Monto-Mt Perry to get road funding

THE Federal Government announced it will commit more funds to make the Monto-Mount Perry Road safer.

The Federal Member for Flynn, Chris Trevor, said after lobbying both levels of government he was “over the moon” that the notorious Monto-Mount Perry Road will receive additional funding to improve safety.

“To be frank this section of road has been unacceptable for some time and I have fought hard for further funding,” Mr Trevor said.

“Today’s announcement of $1.8 million, in addition to the previously committed $738,000, is a welcome investment for local residents and those who travel along this road.”

Mr Trevor said that he was pleased that the new funding would be fast tracked with work to begin early 2011.

“Local residents have waited long enough for this vital upgrade and I am pleased that work on both projects is set to begin at the same time.

“I would like to thank Minister Wallace and the Monto community for working hard on this project and the Department of Main Roads for making this happen,” Mr Trevor said.
