$30k raised for Roseberry
HERE is the best news yet from the HookUp weekend: the 2011 Observer Boyne Tannum HookUp raised $30,000 for Roseberry Community Services.
It's time, once again, to take our hats off to the HookUp committee.
In between all the fish, laughter, wind, rain, sunshine and entertainment, there lies a greater purpose behind the scenes of this unique event.
For 16 years HookUp has been a valuable fundraiser for some of the community's most important charities and community organisations.
Roseberry Community Services is a crucial part of the Gladstone community, offering crisis accommodation and with a range of social services related to housing, family and youth issues.
Roseberry Community Services president Gavin Dicinoski told The Observer the HookUp funds would be put to good use and would benefit many residents.
“It's very, very exciting, because at the moment we're just seeing demand driven through the roof,” he said.
“The sad thing is that while demand is being driven through the roof, funding levels don't increase.”
“So this (HookUp money) allows us to look at maybe putting some money towards another unit, or something like that.”
