Mita looks to rekindle spark in game with Raiders debut

CON Mika needs to rediscover his passion for rugby league, and is hoping his debut for the Gladstone Raiders next week will rekindle the drive he once had.

Lining up for the Raiders against Rockhampton as a preview to the People Resourcing Capras vs Wynnum Manly Seagulls match, Mika is hoping the higher level of play will help the cause.

Having played rugby league at an elite level, Mika lost his enthusiasm for the game when playing in England and returned to New Zealand.

The forward then made the trip to Gladstone for work, and decided to play again.

"I reckon it will help. I don't know much about the Raiders and Rockhampton game, but it is big for the Gladstone area," Mika said.

Having spent periods of time in Newcastle and the United Kingdom playing as a job, Mika's new circumstances are very different.

Getting used to playing for the Raiders, and Brothers locally, on top of work, is taking time - as is the heat to which the 24-year-old is not accustomed.

"The locals are saying it is cold," he said with a laugh.

"Footy is going to take a back seat. I came to reignite that spark, but at the moment work is the priority."

Sport still plays its part though. The drive behind Mika is still strong enough to ensure he plays in some capacity.

This week it is especially the case, as Mika lines up for both Brothers tonight and the Raiders on Thursday.
