Missing Aussie may have died at waterfall

CANADIAN search teams have found the body of a man beneath a landmark waterfall as they scour the site for missing Melbourne woman Sophie Dowsley and her boyfriend.

Local media reported that search and rescue dive teams had recovered a body believed to be that of Canadian Greg Tiffin, 44, who disappeared 12 days ago after setting out on a hiking trip to Statlu Lake with Ms Dowsley, 34.

They are believed to have slipped and fallen from the walls of a canyon overlooking a waterfall with a long history of deaths.

Search teams are continuing to scour the area for any sign of Ms Dowsley.

Her father, Peter Dowsley, who has flown to Canada to help search for her, told CTV: "It's the worst possible nightmare that you could imagine. I couldn't dream of anything worse."

Long-time friends of Mr Tiffin have begun posting tributes to him on Facebook

"He will be greatly missed as a beloved son, brother, uncle and as my friend," wrote Leigh-Anne Larsen.

Search crews located the couple's car and found Ms Dowsley's sunglasses near the waterfall where they disappeared.

They also recovered some of Mr Tiffin's personal items in the water below.

Local mountain rescue official Neil Brewer called the location "a waterfall with a history of fatalities."

"We have not been to that location for close to 20 years, but 20 years ago, we went there three times, three consecutive years, for exactly the same scenario and a fatality each time," Mr Brewer told CTV.
