Miriam Vale to host Capras v Sea Eagles QCup trial
MIRIAM Vale Rugby League Club president Beau Hancock couldn't think of a better way to kick off 2014.
The Rockhampton Leagues Club Capras announced yesterday the club would play its second trial match of the 2014 Intrust Super Cup season at Gary Larson Oval in the small country town of Miriam Vale, 70km south of Gladstone.
Northern Districts Rugby League grand finals aside, Hancock said the pre-season clash between the Capras and the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles would be the biggest match the ground has hosted.
"It's been something we've had mentioned for the past four seasons in a row, so to finally get a game here, we're excited," Hancock said.
Last year the Magpies finished minor premiers, but were bundled out of the finals, leaving a sour taste in mouth of Hancock and the players.
"It wasn't a great finish to our 2013 season, but this is an awesome start to the 2014 season," Hancock said of the match.
CENTRAL QUEENSLAND CAPRAS PRE-SEASON TRIAL
v Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles
February 8, 5pm at Gary Larson Oval
Under the watch of local Sgt Owen Harms and the Gary Larson Oval Enhancement Group, the field has seen a major upgrade since the group was formed in 2000.
"A lot of the people will say, Who, where? when they hear that the Capras are playing here," Hancock said.
"Everyone is shocked at the moment, because we don't know how big it could be."
Capras CEO Denis Keeffe will make an inspection of the field and facilities at the venue today, ahead of the match on February 8.
Along with the Intrust Super Cup trial, the Villa Capri Capras under-21s will play against a Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles Colts.
The Capras play Mackay Cutters in Mackay on February 1 in their first pre-season trial.
