Ruling determines sensitivities

IN June 2008, the proponents prepared and lodged an initial advice statement for the project with the Co-ordinator General. In September 2008, and with a subsequent amendment on July 31, last year, the Australian Minister for the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts determined that six referrals relating to the project were each a “controlled action” due to the potential impacts.

The draft terms of reference (ToR) were advertised for public and advisory agency comment in November 2008.

Advisory agency briefings were held in Gladstone in November 2008.

The final ToR were approved by the Coordinator-General on May 26, last year.

The final EIS was approved by the Co-ordinator General in August 2009. A draft of the SEIS was provided in stages by electronic means starting on December 23, 2009, with revised and additional volumes of the SEIS being uploaded progressively until January 29, 2009.

The release of the SEIS was publicly advertised in February 2010. Comments were invited until March 2010. Draft Social Impact Management Plan (SIMP) was placed in February 2010. Former Environmental Minister Peter Garrett's EIS assessment was due in June 2010. New Federal Environmental Minister Tony Burke extended EIS announcement to today.
