Funding for flood bypass still there if project changes

THE sum of $1.3 million promised to the Gladstone community when Premier Campbell Newman came to town in late August, will likely be delivered even if the designated project changes.

The State Government offered the money to develop a link to bypass the Gladstone-Monto Rd during flooding with funds from its Royalties for the Regions scheme.

Gladstone independent Liz Cunningham asked Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson whether the funds would disappear if the regional council cancelled the project.

"I do understand the council has a different view now and may no longer be interested in that project," Mr Emerson said.

"What I would say to the Member for Gladstone is that we do talk to councils, to find out what their priorities are.

"We will talk to (Gladstone Mayor) Gail Sellers about where she would want to go."
