Mining at Moura ramps up

MINING in Moura is about to ramp up with Leighton Contractors' Resources Division having received a letter of intent to enter into a mining services contract worth $159 million at Dawson Mine from Anglo American Metallurgical Coal Pty Ltd.

Under the two-year contract, Leighton Mining (part of the resources division) will undertake the surface mining of the existing pit and the greenfield operation in Dawson North.

Leighton Contractors' Resources Division executive general manager Steven Keyser said the company's track record in managing similar projects in the region was a key factor in the decision.

“This is an incredible opportunity to work with a well-respected mining company and recognises our ability to work closely with our clients to deliver fantastic results,” he said.

“This opportunity will enable Leighton Mining to provide a range of services at the mine that will support and add value to its future development,” Leighton Mining general manager Greg Fokes said.

“It will also provide us with a platform to build a collaborative and strong relationship with Anglo American.”

Dawson is an open cut coal mine.
