Our "hot Aussie guy" to debut on Modern Family’s Aussie ep

COOLUM native Jye Williams has launched his acting career on America's award-winning comedy Modern Family.

The miner-turned-model only started taking acting classes last year after moving to Sydney to take up a job with Vivien's Models.

The 22-year-old makes his debut in Sunday's Australian-filmed episode of the sitcom, playing a "hot Aussie guy" who catches the eye of Sarah Hyland's character Haley Dunphy.

The episode aired in the US, where it has up to 13 million viewers, on Thursday.

"It was such a good experience to be on such a large set," he told APN.

Williams' character meets Haley when she is browsing in a souvenir shop.

"I'm meant to be an Aussie fling kind of thing. It's a flirty scene I guess," he said.

"I only got one line. It wasn't so much what I had to say, but more saying it in front of such a big crowd."

But if it wasn't for an abrupt end to his work in the mining industry, Williams never would have landed the role.

"A year ago there was no way I'd see myself doing something like this," he said.

"It's funny how it all works out. If I didn't get made redundant then I'd still be there (on the drill rigs)."

The Australia episode has Burrell's character Phil Dunphy fly his family Down Under to fulfil his mother's wish for him to return to the county where he was conceived.

The Australia episode airs on Sunday at 6.30pm on Channel 10.
