Gladstone region's million dollar marina project almost done
BOATIES will soon have a brand new marina to use as their base in Seventeen Seventy.
In three weeks there will be no sign of the old marina which is being replaced as part of a $1 million development from the Mergard family.
This week workers began installing new pylons following a three month wait for the right weather conditions to move barges in and out of the area.
But Mark Mergard said the project --- originally expected to be finished by December --- was now on track to be ready to use early next month.
"This is a momentous occasion," Mr Mergard said.
"We've been working to get this marina replaced for years and we know it's a project the community values because we've had a phenomenal amount of interest from local boaties and people ready to launch new tourism businesses in the area."
A 10% increase in tourist numbers last year was the catalyst to launch the redevelopment which will see 20 berths added to the facility.
