Milliner goes gaga over Coast calendar girls
THE Noosa milliner who was part of the team designing headdresses for pop icon Lady Gaga has thrown her support behind the Vintage Calendar Girls project.
Cindy Vogels of The Devoted Milliner created pieces for Gaga's 2014 Cheek to Cheek tour and found international recognition when fashionistas fell in love with her work.
After wrapping up a busy schedule at the Gympie Muster as a designer to the festival's biggest female country singers, Ms Vogels contacted calendar founder Misty Bland to offer to make two elaborate headpieces to complement one of the shots for the cheeky 1920s-inspired calendar.
Ms Bland said Ms Vogels would take the 2017 calendar "to the next level with her vision, style and flair for fashion."
Ms Vogels' creations will feature in a cheeky scene for May or June, with two topless girls, a clapper board and the headpieces in a boudoir room at Maleny Manor.
Ms Vogels said she was drawn to the project due to its drive to raise awareness and funds for Rare Cancers Australia.
"For me, it was her vision and the cause and for me, the best way to help is with my designs so it was just a perfect match-up," she said.
"Misty has sent me the inspiration images it is the final shoot and I hope they're spectacular edition to her project."
Ms Vogels said she was connected to the Gaga tour through an image she had posted on Instagram, which was found by a junior stylist at Brandon Maxwell Studios in New York.
"They fell in love with it and contacted me," she said.
"There were more than 20 milliners globally who were engaged for that four-month project and we produced more than 50 headpieces in that time, but not all of them were used."
Legendary AFL player Barry Hall, who signed on as the "gangster talent" for the cover and Sunshine Coast radio presenter Caroline Hutchinson will both be at the calendar's gala launch on October 22.
Ms Hutchinson will take on the role as MC for the evening.
The launch will kick off at 5.30pm at Old Petrie Town, the location of all of the photo shoots in the calendar.
