A CHANCE meeting on the other side of the world seemed like a sign for Gladstone couple Joe and Krystal Pawley.

Six years after going their separate ways, Krystal happened to be holidaying in the same Canadian town where her former partner and now husband was living.

"We went our separate ways and met again in Canada," Mr Pawley said.

"I was living there and she had a round the world ticket. I went to a hostel to say hello to a few friends and I heard her laugh and knew who it was straight away."

Two years later, Mr Pawley came back to Australia, and they have been together ever since.

They tied the knot with a beachside wedding in Fiji, on May 24, surrounded by 50 family and friends.

A relaxed island wedding came in handy when poor weather threatened to put a dampener on the nuptials.

"The weather was horrible the days leading up to it but the day of the wedding, it was probably the best we had," Mr Pawley said.
