Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is the best hot hatch on the market

TODAY I am featuring one of the latest AMG models available from Mercedes-Benz, the 2013 A45 AMG.

The A45 AMG was first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year labelled as "The smallest Mercedes tuned by AMG".

It is also the cheapest and the first AMG with fewer than six cylinders.

It features a front-mounted, 2.0-litre inline four with a twin-scroll turbocharger, allowing 268 kilowatts (360 horsepower) and 450 Newton metres of torque (332 pound-feet of torque) to power all four wheels.

The power peaks at 6000rpm and the torque remains it's highest between 2250 and 5000rpm.

The peak pressure from the twin-scroll turbocharger is listed at up to 140 bar, meanwhile the maximum charge pressure is at 1.8 bar.

Before the power reaches the wheels, it first goes through the AMG Speedshift DCT seven-speed dual-clutch sports transmission, which can produce extremely quick shifts when using the paddles behind the steering wheel.

This particular AMG model also has a kerb weight of about 1500 kilograms.

Mercedes claim that the A45 AMG can launch from 0-100 kilometres per hour in just 4.6 seconds, and that it will keep accelerating until it reaches its electronically limited top speed of 250 kilometres per hour (155 miles per hour).

Although this is what Mercedes themselves claim, other car reviewers have tested the A45 AMG completing the 0-100 kilometre per hour sprint in just 4.1 seconds.

The A45 AMG holds many records, along with being the smallest AMG and the first AMG with fewer than six cylinders, it also holds the record for the most horsepower per litre in a production car.

Some other features that this Mercedes-Benz is equipped with includes 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/35 tyres, the AMG Aerodynamics Package which includes an AMG rear aerofoil, additional flicks on the front apron and a larger front splitter, xenon headlights, four-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control, red painted brake calipers, an AMG Performance exhaust system with an automatically controlled exhaust flap, a leather interior with front AMG Performance seats and much more.

I believe that the 2014 Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is currently the hottest hot hatch available today, and prices start at just $74,990 plus on-roads in Australia, which is quite a reasonable price for an AMG Mercedes, except there is a six-month wait on the next available A45 for sale in Australia.
