MAL Meninga says rugby league administrators must admit they have made a mistake with Origin ticket prices and take drastic action to avoid banks of empty seats for the Origin opener at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday week.
More than 7000 tickets remain unsold for next week's clash between Queensland and NSW, as the public rallies against higher ticket prices for this year's series.
Gold tickets cost $250 for the opener, with silver tickets costing just $30 less at $220. The smaller selection of bronze tickets cost $80 (sold out), meaning only gold and silver options are on the market.
Meninga said it was time for the governing bodies to apologise to fans or risk alienating the core rugby league audience that has previously made Origin at Suncorp Stadium one of the great nights in Australian sport - and one that sold out in minutes.
