Megan Hunt wins The Observer Luke Woof Memorial Award

YOUNG sporting champion Luke Woof took home the top honours four years ago at the inaugural Yaralla Sport Star of the Year awards.

He was awarded for his exceptional skill in cricket, soccer, futsal, hockey, athletics and fishing.

And also for the way he conducted himself on and off the field.

At just 17 Luke died in a crash in January 2010. The Observer Luke Woof Memorial Award was created in honour of his incredible sporting spirit.

The criteria for the recipient is to be an all-rounder with a good attitude.

Luke's dad Ian, mum Sheryn and siblings Robbie and Sharni presented Megan Hunt with the award at the Yaralla Sports Star awards on November 30, 2012.

Megan said she was humbled to receive the special award.

After hearing Ian speak about Luke's achievements, Megan described the teen as "amazing".

Megan is now preparing to work with the AFL to promote women in football
