Medal in Power's sights

BASKETBALL: The success of Gladstone's junior basketball teams continues in Townsville.

The Power boys' under-14 side will play in the Queensland State Championship division three grand final at midday today after a big win against Sunshine Coast Rip Green at time of print late yesterday.

The Power beat South West Metro Pirates Red 53-47 earlier yesterday in the quarter-final.

Rahul Captain and Tyryn Littleboy both shot 14 points while Josh Morfey used his height to great advantage to finish with nine points against Pirates yesterday.

Josh dropped two points to give Gladstone a handy 15-point lead four-minutes into the second quarter.

The Pirates edges back into the game, but could not get any closer than six points as the Power held sway late in the game.

The games between Port City Power and its opponents have generally been close.

Gladstone beat Logan Storm 46-44 in game one courtesy of a Tyryn two-pointer with just six-seconds left.

Power then made light work of SC Phoenix Orange and Gold Coast Rollers in game's two and three with 71-42 and 57-27 wins.

Northside Wizards were the Power's next victim.

Josh scored the winning basket in what was a high-quality match. Progress scores can be followed on the Basketball Queensland sportingpulse website.
