Rory McIlroy’s back and primed for tilt at US PGA

RORY McIlroy hasn't played a round of competitive golf since shooting a four-under par 66 in the final round of the US Open at Chambers Bay in late June.

But the world No.1 says he is 100% ready to go for this week's PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin, the final major of 2015.

The defending champion injured ligaments in his left ankle playing soccer with friends in the first week of July, denying him the chance to defend his British Open crown at St Andrews.

American Zach Johnson won the claret jug in a play-off, and has been paired with McIlroy and Masters and US Open champ Jordan Spieth for the first two rounds.

After missing the British Open play-off by a single stroke, victory at Whistling Straits would see Spieth join Ben Hogan (1953) and Tiger Woods (2000) as the only players to win three majors in the same year.
