MATER Miracles 5k Walk and Run organiser Michelle Spann was anxious before the event kicked-off yesterday morning at Toondoon Botanic Gardens.

She just told herself to breathe and remain calm.

The event had been postponed in June because of bad weather and on Saturday things weren't looking great.

When we spoke to her yesterday she was hoping it didn't affect the number of people who would turn up.

"It's a cold morning and I think they will be staying in bed until just before we start."

But as the 10am start neared, families and former politicians came out from behind the trees with prams and their children, and a few mascots.

That was when Michelle was able to breathe a sigh of relief; when the long line of people headed off.
