Masters gymnasts leap to Gladstone for Sunday competition
GYMNASTICS: Never too old to learn, participate or have some fun, will be the motto for this Sunday's 2018 Masters Gymnastics Competition.
The popular masters competition started with a humble beginning of just 11 participants in 2015 and has grown in numbers to 47.
Competition director and coach Anna Turetschek was looking forward to the strong level of talented masters gymnasts attending.
"Everyone is excited about this competition and it's grown in popularity with other centres attending,” Turetschek said.
"There will be 47 masters gymnasts here, eight from Gladstone with seven ladies and one male.
"Also there is a fun aspect to the competition that is terribly important where the audience can judge on the most entertaining floor routine.”
The gymnasts will travel from different Brisbane clubs, Wide Bay, Jimboomba, Beaudesert and Hervey Bay.
First-time participant Karen Parker was a bit nervous about competing but was going to try her best on the day.
"All my kids are into gymnastics and I thought I would have a go,” Parker said.
"I'm a bit nervous and not sure what I got into and I'll be doing three of the four apparatus, vault, floor and beam.”
The event will be hosted at the Anna Turetschek Gymnastics Arena next to the PCYC Complex on Sunday at 8.30am.
