Calliope Roosters aiming to re-establish A-grade team

RUGBY LEAGUE: ON THE back of the club's first premiership in 32 years this season, the Calliope Roosters rugby league club is aiming to re-insert an A-grade team for 2016.

The club will host a meet-and-greet function at Diggers Arms Hotel at Calliope tomorrow from 6pm.

Club president Pete Masters said the aim of the meeting at their sponsor's precinct was to generate more interest to re-establish teams in the A-grade and under-19 level in the Gladstone and District Rugby League.

"We have had a reserves and women's team winning grand finals in the season just gone and hopefully we can have under-19s and A-grade," Masters said.

"I guess it's a call of arms to encourage anybody to get involved at the Roosters at any capacity.

"The focus last season was with the reserves and women and it injected funds into the club, which culminated in flags.

"This has re-installed camaraderie and has been a real coup for the club."

Masters also said the focus was to continue to develop an already strong junior base.

"We are trying to create a pathway so that the Calliope club can be a pathway for our juniors to follow," Masters said.

For those interested in joining the club, Masters can be contacted on 0401 696 406.
