SHE'S been a Gladstone girl for 18 months, but former Melburnian Mary Bolling says that sometimes, she still feels like she's fallen down a rabbit hole.

"When you notice some huge bit of industry from a new angle, you do wonder, am I shrinking?" she laughed.

Ms Bolling is ready to stand tall for her new hometown tomorrow though, as she skates with Gladstone PCYC Roller Derby's Hustlers.

The Malice in Wonderland double-header sees the Hustlers take on Paradise City Lightning, up from Surfers.

Ms Bolling, who works at CQUniversity, said joining roller derby was a great shortcut to getting involved in Gladstone.

"It's a great community, and because it's a grassroots league, everyone's working together to help it grow," she said.

"Derby definitely adds some diversity to Gladdy's event calendar!"

Saturday's big showdown at the PCYC will feature a twisted Wonderland theme, as well as a live band, licensed bar and food, a bake sale, and two brutal derby bouts.

Tickets are $15 on the door, $5 for children under 13, with entry from 4.30pm, and the Hustlers play at 7pm.
