THE CQ Mariners Football Club's tour of the United Kingdom has been so popular it is now open to any Gladstone footballer in the right age group.
Players in the under-14 and under-16 groups are eligible.
Leaving in November, the tour is set to visit Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Huddersfield and possibly venture into Wales.
Coach Joe Fenech originally wanted to take a squad of 17 players, but has lifted that to a second team, allowing 34 players to tour.
"Because of the interest we are opening it to all the other clubs as well as the Mariners," Fenech said.
"We have 23 players already locked in to go."
The official closing date of April or May for expressions of interest are likely to be moved forward, with the system for entry being first in best dressed.
The tour is not necessarily for the best players, but for the ones who show the correct attitude and commitment to the program.
"I am going to get them training one day a week before we go to gel," Fenech said.
The two-week tour begins on November 18, leaving a lot of time for the squads to find out all about each other.
Still trying to reduce the cost as much as possible, Fenech is chasing sponsorship for a tour schedule he is proud of.
"It includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, kits, accommodation and travel," Fenech said.
