Mariners knock Roar off top

CENTRAL COAST have done what was unthinkable a month ago - overtaken the once-rampant Brisbane Roar at the top of the ladder.

The Mariners consigned the Roar to their fourth straight defeat last night on the back of two first-half goals at Suncorp Stadium.

Less than a month ago, Brisbane set a new Australian record for professional football when they recorded their 36th match without defeat.

Young gun Mustafa Amini opened the scoring for the visitors in the fifth minute with a well-struck shot from the edge of the penalty area.

The Mariners doubled the advantage just before the break via the left boot of Pedj Bojic.
