Mariners' Hutchinson covering for Zwaanswijk in clash

CENTRAL Coast Mariners skipper John Hutchinson says his team can cover for the absence of experienced Dutch defender Patrick Zwaanswijk against the Brisbane Roar on Sunday.

Zwaanswijk will miss the clash at Bluetongue Stadium through suspension after being sent off during the Marinders 2-2 draw with Melbourne Victory last week.

But Hutchinson was confident whoever took the Dutchman's place would be a more-than adequate replacement.

Youngsters Zach Anderson and Brent Griffiths will be favourites to replace Zwaanswijk and Hutchinson said either would do a good job on the likes of Besart Berisha and Thomas Broich come Sunday.

"The defensive structure has been set by Arnie (coach Graham Arnold) and all the boys know their jobs, so whoever comes in and takes over Patrick's job should know what they need to do," Hutchinson said.

Twenty-year-old defender Trent Sainsbury has already filled the boots of former skipper Alex Wilkinson who now plies his trade in Korea.

And Hutchinson said either Anderson or Griffiths had what it takes to deputise for Zwaanswijk and neither would let the side down.

"They're both fantastic players with great attitudes towards training and their work rate is second to none," he said.

"Sains has done very well in taking over from Wilko (Wilkinson), he had some big shoes to fill and he has done that, now we need him to lead either Zach or Brent Griff around the park."

Meanwhile, Western Sydney Wanderers marquee man Shinji Ono is in doubt for Saturday's clash against Melbourne Victory due to illness.

The Japanese star called in sick yesterday morning and missed his side's training session at Blacktown after waking up with a virus.
