Marina Bridge out of order for marine traffic
THE Matthew Flinders Bridge (Gladstone marina bridge) is closed to marine traffic until further notice and tomorrow, depending on weather, will close to motorists and pedestrians as well at 9am for two to three hours.
Gladstone region Mayor Gail Sellers said the bascule bridge was unable to be raised for marine traffic due to a likely problem with the hydraulic mechanism.
"(The) council is currently assessing the situation and investigations will require the road across the bridge to close for a couple of hours in the morning," Councillor Sellers said.
"The road closure will be dependent on weather with rain and wind forecasts critical to when the relevant bridge assessments can be made."
In the event of heavy rain the road closure could be re-scheduled until tomorrow afternoon.
Traffic management will be in place and motorists are advised to use the alternative route via Alf O'Rourke Drive.
"Council apologises for any inconvenience and while the road closure is unavoidable, all attempts have been made to lessen the impacts of the road closure and enable the issue to be rectified as soon as possible," Cr Sellers said.
