Marina Bridge closed to vessels until further notice
HYDRAULIC repairs will stop the Matthew Flinders Bridge from opening to marine traffic until further notice.
The indefinite closure of the marina bridge means operators of tall marine vessels will be forced to plan alternative routes for at least the next week.
An urgent bridge assessment carried out on Friday revealed hydraulic issues that may cause further damage if the bridge were to be raised.
Mayor Gail Sellers said the closure was unavoidable.
"Council thanks all stakeholders for their patience and understanding and all efforts will be made to limit the time to reinstate the bridge operations," she said.
Motorist and pedestrian access over the bridge remain unaffected, although temporary delays may occur as the bridge undergoes further investigation.
