Gladstone drivers face 6 minute detour as bridge closes

THE Matthew Flinders bridge's latching mechanism and traffic catch barriers will undergo repairs today, closing the bridge to cars and pedestrians.

The bridge will be closed for eight hours. It will be functional for tall marina vessels, provided the council receives a minimum of one hours notice before the bridge lift.

The bridge will be closed from 7am to 3pm.

Gladstone mayor Matt Burnett thanked the region for its patience during ongoing works to the bridge.

"It's not an ideal situation, but those needing access to the Gladstone Marina, Spinnaker Park, CQUniversity campus and nearby businesses can still do so via Alf O'Rourke Drive," Mr Burnett said.
