Many memories to be made at movies, not all on screen

Denis Raev

EVERY few weeks we have one of our movie nights where we head off to the flicks with a whole bunch of Zinc listeners, have a few laughs and watch a movie that has just come in.

I reckon it's a great way to wind down after a hard week at work and relax for a couple of hours.

Being at the movies is one of those pastimes where you grab your partner, or someone you reckon could be your partner, grab some popcorn and something fizzy and head into the darkness for a while and forget about life.

When we went last week to see Flight with Denzel crashing a plane, I was remembering the good old days of going to the movies.

I know the old cinema in Goondoon St has only just been scrapped.

That alone has brought up many great memories in canvas chairs, but in all honesty the building had to go. It was a complete eyesore.

Cast your mind back to when you first started going to the movies. Was it something with an intermission?

Whatever it was, it surely has to be good memories as it was a great place to meet up with mates and get acquainted with new ones.

Perhaps someone playing a piano up the front with newsreels for a few more years back in time?

Or perhaps it was memories of throwing and rolling Jaffas down the aisle at the screen?

Whatever it was, it surely has to be good memories as it was a great place to meet up with mates and get acquainted with new ones.

The back row used to be prime position for me when I was growing up, not just for privacy but for keeping an eye on my mates.

One of our staff actually consistently shares her seat with her partner. When I mean share, I mean the two of them sit in the same seat.

Okay, it is in the Gold Room and the seats are a lot bigger and they recline, but yes the two of them share the one seat to get closer to each other.

While I won't name names, Jane and Victor like it and have been doing it for years.

There are many memories to be made at the movies and, if you judge the young kids hitting the big screen lately, I think we're in safe hands for many more memories to come.

I've just never heard of someone being thought of at the movies.

Perhaps there have been a few twinkles in people's eyes but I'm just hoping there's been none of that sort of stuff going on when I've been in the theatre…ewwww!!
