Man treated for smoke inhalation after house fire

A 66-YEAR-OLD MAN has had a lucky escape after a fire broke out in his North Mackay home this morning.

However he has had to be transported by QAS to Mackay Base Hospital for smoke inhalation.

He was taken from Parr St, this street is located at the back of the house.

A police spokesman said the 66-year-old man was alerted to the fire by his smoke alarm.

A QFES spokeswoman said they were called to attend the house fire about 4.20am on Ungerer St North Mackay

She said three crews attended and the fire was well involved when they arrived.

Crews are still on scene but the fire is now out, the spokeswoman said.

The police spokesman said Scenes of Crime detectives will be arriving this morning to investigate.

This will be the fifth house fire in just a few weeks.

On July 23 children were rescued from a house fire at Beaconsfield by their neighbour.

Then later that day a man lost his life in a house fire at Farleigh.
