Man's body found in Queensland coal wagon

POLICE say they will prepare a report for the coroner after a body was found in a coal wagon at the Port of Brisbane this afternoon.

The man, who police say was from Brisbane and aged in 40s, is not believed to have died in suspicious circumstances.

EARLIER: POLICE don't believe a man who was found dead in a coal train wagon today was murdered.

The man was found by Queensland Rail workers when an alarm sounded as the train entered the terminal from Chinchilla.

Coal was loaded into the wagon in Chinchilla, more than 300km north-west of Brisbane, mid-morning yesterday.

Police believe the death occurred there.

Detective Inspector Owen Elloy said it was one of the most unusual deaths he'd seen in his 37 years of experience, but confirmed the homicide squad would not be involved.

"There's nothing to suggest (the death) is untoward," he said.

The man has been identified by police and they are working to contact his family.
