Man stops breathing after rough housing goes wrong

A TANNUM Sands man lost consciousness and stopped breathing after a rope became tangled around his throat while wrestling with friends on Sunday.

RACQ Capricorn Rescue was tasked to Bustard Head in the early hours of Sunday to transport the man, who had been camping in the area.

The 25-year-old lost consciousness and stopped breathing for a period of time before the arrival of the rescue chopper.

The rescue service's doctor and intensive care paramedic treated the patient at the scene and during the 55-minute flight to Rockhampton.

The rescue service also transported a 48-year-old woman from Gladstone Hospital to Rockhampton on Sunday afternoon.

The patient was airlifted in a serious but stable condition "showing possible drowning symptoms", the rescue service said.
