Man sporting basketball singlet puts magistrate offside
ELLIOT Carson Kidner may have been sporting a basketball jersey in Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday, but Magistrate Cameron Press was not a fan.
Kidner was awaiting his appearance, when Mr Press noticed his sleeveless attire.
Interrupting the current proceedings, Mr Press told Kidner to leave the room.
"You are not allowed in here in a singlet," he said.
After Kidner explained that it was all he owned, the magistrate threw back that he should walk outside and buy a t-shirt, before instructing him to leave for a second time.
Kidner left, clearly agitated and mumbling profanities.
The man did not return for his appearance, but the court dealt with his charges in his absence. Kidner pleaded guilty to one count of committing a public nuisance in July this year.
He had caused a scene after police arrested him, by swearing at the officers in a Rockhampton street.
Police Prosecutor Senior Constable Manon Barwick told the court that Kidner was "heavily intoxicated" when he was detained. Kidner was convicted and fined $450.
