Alleged offender in car theft spree, arson set to face court

THE man accused of stealing and setting fire to two cars and abandoning a stolen Toyota LandCruiser on rail tracks in Gladstone in May has been ordered to stand trial in the District Court.

Matthew John Coyle, 25, appeared via video link before Gladstone Magistrates Court as the police prosecutor read out charges from a series of incidents.

Prosecutor Nina Sulzer tendered more than 30 witness statements before magistrate Penelope Hay.

Although Coyle faces a series of charges, some unrelated, the most serious charges of arson and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle will be heard in the Gladstone District Court on a date to be set.
