Man with scrotum the size of a watermelon needs $100,000

A YOUNG man battling a life-threatening condition, which has seen his scrotum swell to the size of a watermelon, needs to raise $100,000 for surgery in the United States.

Willowbank resident Tyrone Bowd, 24, was diagnosed with scrotal lymphoedema 12 months ago.

The rare condition has made his scrotum swell to his knees, making otherwise simple tasks such as walking a challenge.

Associated illnesses are also putting Mr Bowd's life at risk. His mother Tanya said Mr Bowd nearly died from an infection in February.

Ms Bowd said surgeons in Australia could not perform the delicate surgery her son required and the family had turned to US specialist Joel Gelman for help.

"The larger it gets the more difficult it is going to be for Tyrone. It is interfering with his day-to-day life," she told Ten News.
