Man released from jail, gets caught for driving unlicensed

DRIVER Michael Sean Ashman, 28, has been disqualified from driving for six months after he was caught driving without a licence in June.

Released on parole from jail this month after serving four weeks for an unrelated dangerous driving offence at Kirkwood in March, Ashman pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to one count of driving unlicensed because of a SPER suspension after police stopped the black Ford Falcon he was driving on the Dawson Hwy on June 28.

"I definitely would not have been driving if I had known," Ashman said.

However, magistrate Penelope Hay said it was his eighth driving offence this year and Ashman should have been aware his licence was at risk.

It had been suspended by SPER because of the build-up of demerit points.

"You have an extremely poor traffic record," Ms Hay said.

She also fined him $500.
