She called him 'dad', he allegedly raped and abused her
A MAN accused of maintaining a sexual relationship with an underage girl who called him "dad" in Hervey Bay and Brisbane has pleaded not guilty to a range of sexual offences.
The man, who cannot be named so as to protect the child's identity, pleaded not guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court to charges including maintaining a sexual relationship, rape and indecent treatment of a child.
The court heard the girl had moved between her parent's care, her grandparents and foster parents. Despite the constant changes in her living situation the court heard the abuse was the only constant.
The girl referred to the man as "dad" but they are not related.
The court heard he forced the girl to engage in sexual acts even after she told him she did not want to do them anymore.
Crown prosecutor Clayton Wallis said the abuse began when they lived in Chermside in Brisbane's north but continued when they moved to Hervey Bay.
He said the court will be shown a series of text messages the two sent each other - including a love letter.
Mr Wallis said other texts showed the man was jealous when the girl was in relationships with boys her own age.
The alleged offences took place over about 10 years as the girl made the complaint after telling a youth counsellor she had been abused.
The trial is expected to continue for the rest of the week. - ARM NEWSDESK
