Man hit by car on Auckland St after leaving pub

A MAN was hit by a car on Auckland St near the Young Australian Hotel this afternoon.

The man was taken to hospital but a witness said it appeared his injuries were minor.

David McIntosh was in his shop Gladstone Bicycle Centre across the road from the pub when he heard the accident.

By the time Mr McIntosh came outside his shop, he said the injured man had made it to the footpath.

"He told me he was fine, but really drunk," Mr McIntosh said.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene at 4.15pm.

The only visible damage to the car was a cracked windscreen.
