90-year-old man found dead on river bank in Calliope

INVESTIGATIONS are ongoing after the body of an elderly man was found on the banks of the Calliope River on Wednesday.

The 90-year-old is believed to have run aground in his tinny on Calliope River, in events leading to his death.

It was speculated that the local man, whose name has not yet been released, was on the river with several crab pots when his vessel unexpectedly ran aground.

The body was discovered by fellow mariners.

The Gladstone Water Police were called to the scene, and the deceased was taken to Calliope boat ramp.

The man's body was then handed over to the coroner.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the time and cause of death.

Investigations are continuing as to the cause of death.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The man's name has not been released, awaiting the notification of family members of the death.
