Man fined for stealing bottle by putting it down his pants

A MAN who helped himself to a $45 bottle of bourbon wound up with a much heftier bill to pay.

Brett Gregory Norris pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count each of public nuisance and unauthorised dealing with shop goods (maximum $150).

The court heard Norris entered Dicey's bottle shop on December 2 last year and stuffed a bottle of Wild Turkey down his pants before leaving.

Magistrate Russell Warfield opted to record convictions for both charges in Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Norris was convicted, fined $250 and ordered to pay $44.99 restitution for unauthorised dealing, and was convicted and fined $400 for the public nuisance offence.
