Swimmer dies at New Brighton Beach

A MAN has died after he was pulled from the water at New Brighton Beach near Brunswick Heads this morning.   

About 7:45am on Tuesday, police and paramedics were called to Brunswick Heads Surf Life Saving Club following reports of a swimmer in difficulty.  

The man, believed to be aged in his 60s, was located by surfers and taken to shore at the North Head area of New Brighton Beach.  

He was transported by paramedics to Mullumbimby Hospital and pronounced deceased.  

Police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended the beach and the man's death is not being treated as suspicious.  

Police are attempting to identify the man and locate his next of kin while investigations into his death are continuing.  

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
