Man charged with unlawful wounding in Arakun

POLICE have charged a 34-year-old man with unlawful wounding following investigations into a disturbance at Aurukun this morning.

Officers were called to an address on Bowenda Drive around 11.15am following reports of an alleged argument between a man and a woman.

Upon arrival at the residence police located a 41-year-old woman with stab wounds to her chest and arm.

The woman suffered non life threatening injuries and was flown to the Cairns Base Hospital for treatment.

The 34-year-old Aurukun man has been charged with one count of unlawful wounding and is due to appear in the Aurukun Magistrates Court on June 18.

The pair are known to each other.
