A 44-YEAR-old man has been charged following investigations into a serious crash at Banana on Wednesday morning.

Investigations suggest a motorcycle and a car were travelling in the same direction on Baralaba-Banana Road just after 9am when the car moved to overtake the motorcycle.

The sedan clipped the rear of the motorcycle, causing the rider to fall and sustain life threatening injuries.

A 50-year-old Moura man was airlifted to Brisbane for medical treatment after receiving critical spinal and neck injuries.

The driver of the car was later issued a notice to appear for driving under the influence and disqualified driving.

The 44-year-old Woorabinda man will appear in Biloela Magistrates Court on February 12.

The crash occurred about 8km from Banana.

The RACQ Capricorn Rescue Helicopter delivered a doctor and intensive care paramedic to the scene.

The doctor stabilised the patient and travelled by fixed wing aircraft to Brisbane.

The road was closed for some time while the patient was treated at the scene.

Police are continuing their investigations.
