Man charged after punching his mother in the head

MOST boys are taught to respect their mothers but Glastonbury man Adam Jeffrey Brown didn't on September 23 when he punched his mum in the head.

Gympie Magistrates Court heard the 22-year-old punched his mother on the left side of her head while at her home in Gympie.

He pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and another charge of wilful damage.

The court heard Brown had arrived at his mother's home unannounced, where he had been staying, to collect his belongings and move out.

After a conversation where his mother told him to only take what he owned, an argument erupted that rose to the point of Brown punching his mother.

The blow left bruising and swelling near the woman's left ear.

After the attack Brown went outside and smashed the back window of his mother's car.

Magistrate M Baldwin warned that violence such as Brown's would often end in a jail term in her court, however, Brown would be better suited to a period of probation.

The court heard Brown, who was grieving the death of a grandparent and battled with anger management problems, had been doing work at his mother's house since the offences in order to pay back the damage he had caused.

The court also heard his mother had accompanied him to court to face the charges.

Brown was placed on six months of probation, with the condition he complete an anger management course.
